Sell your Hyundai Elantra in Tulsa
You can sell your Hyundai Elantra in Tulsa two ways: call (539) 271-2021 or use the form to learn whether it's a car we buy, or request our partner's free online offer. Look up your model year below first: 2011 to 2015 Elantras carry an ABS fire recall, 2019 and 2020 cars carry the recall that can mean a replacement engine, and any buyer who runs your VIN sees whichever one is still open.

Short answer
Run the VIN: the ABS fire recall covers 2011 to 2015 cars, and the engine recall covers 2019 and 2020. A knocking engine in the years between is a repair-or-sell call.

Hyundai Elantra problems: 2013, 2017 and a run of engine years
NHTSA, the federal vehicle safety agency, posts every complaint owners file, by model year and by the part named. We read the Elantra's for 2012 through 2025 in September 2026. A complaint is one owner's report, not a proven defect, and a year that sold more cars draws more of them.
- 2012: 674 complaints, the Touring wagon included, led by the engine (140) and the electrical system (129).
- 2013: 1,334 complaints, the most of any year in that span. Brakes are named on 285 and steering on 272, and many of the steering reports describe a click or clunk through the wheel when turning.
- 2014 to 2018: the engine tops the list every year: 170, 93, 116, 311 and 169 complaints. Owners describe engines that stall while driving, knock or burn oil. The 2017 stands out with 792 complaints, and most of its 134 structure complaints are doors that won't open from the handle.
- 2019 and 2020: 253 and 257 complaints, the engine first both years (135 and 110), and many of those cite the recall below. The 2019 adds 65 lighting complaints, mostly dead high beams; 48 of the 2020's name the power train, most of them the transmission.
- 2021 on: far quieter, under 170 a year even with the Hybrid and N counted. Electrical faults lead from 2021 to 2023, and several 2023 and 2024 owners report a horn that quit.

The Hyundai engine recall on 2019 and 2020 Elantras
NHTSA campaign 21V301 covers 2019 and 2020 Elantras with the 2.0-liter Nu MPI engine. The summary gives the cause: "The piston oil rings may not have been properly heat-treated, which could result in engine damage." A damaged engine may stall, and oil may leak onto hot exhaust parts, raising the risk of a fire. Dealers inspect the engine, replace it when needed, and add software Hyundai calls the Piston Ring Noise Sensing System. If your 2019 or 2020 knocks or stalls, run the VIN before you pay anyone to open the engine.
On older Elantras, the engine leads the complaints for 2012 and every year from 2014 to 2018, yet none of the recalls on those years involves the engine, so no recall pays for that repair.

Other Elantra recalls to settle before a sale
A recall covers only cars built in a set window, so check yours by VIN on NHTSA's recall search. The ones that matter most:
- 2011 to 2015 (23V651): the anti-lock brake module can leak fluid internally and short out, which can start an engine compartment fire, parked or moving. The notice is blunt: "Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete." The fix is a new ABS fuse.
- 2015 and 2016 (26V307): a driver's air bag inflator that may rupture when it deploys. Warning letters went out in July 2026, with the final remedy expected in August, so check where yours stands.
- 2021 and 2022 (22V354): front seat belt pretensioners that may explode in a crash. Dealers fit a cap, and cars fixed under the earlier pretensioner recalls need this repair too.
- 2023 (23V526): an Idle Stop & Go oil pump controller that can overheat, with the same park-outside advice.
- 2024 (24V308): an EGR valve that can short and cut drive power.
- Smaller ones: brake lights that can stay on (2013 and 2014), a brake booster that may fail (2017), and lug nuts or ball joint fasteners that may be loose (2020).
Under 49 U.S.C. 30120, the maker has to remedy a recall defect without charge, except on a vehicle "bought by the first purchaser more than 15 calendar years" before the recall notice. The recalls above all fall inside that limit; the 2012s are nearing it.

A worn-out engine with no recall behind it: repair or sell?
Clear any open recall before you sell; the dealer does it at no cost, and a buyer who runs the VIN sees it closed.
The expensive question is an engine that stalls, knocks or burns oil with no recall behind it. Get the diagnosis and quote in writing and set it next to what the car would bring running well. If the quote comes near that figure, you'd mostly be fixing it for the next owner, and selling it as it sits is the plainer choice. The engine problems guide goes through the symptoms, and repair or sell walks through the math. A 2020 that slips or hesitates in gear belongs on the transmission page instead.
A dead high beam on a 2019 or a silent horn on a 2023 is a smaller call; see small problems. Tell the buyer what you know and pass along the shop's paperwork.
What to have ready before you ask for an Elantra offer
No number appears on this page, since nobody can price an Elantra they haven't heard about. Your answers set the offer, so have these ready:
- The exact mileage from the odometer.
- What the engine is doing. Does it knock, use oil or show a warning light? On a 2019 or 2020, has the recall inspection been done?
- Recall repair orders. They answer a buyer's first question.
- The title. If a lender is still on it or it carries a salvage brand, say so up front; car with a loan and salvage title explain what each one adds.
- Body and cabin. Hail dents, cracked glass, a door that won't open, and whether it starts and drives.
Who buys the Elantra in Tulsa, and the title step Oklahoma requires
Call the Tulsa line at (539) 271-2021 or send the details through the form: year, mileage, what's wrong and whose name is on the title. Some cars we buy ourselves, from any part of Tulsa, and we pay for those with a check. We'll also look at an Elantra with no title or no keys, though we don't buy every one; if yours isn't a fit, we tell you on the call.
The second route is our partner Peddle's online offer, free and with no obligation. Peddle arranges and covers the pickup, and at pickup "Peddle issues payment immediately by check." Have the title, the registration and a driver's license or ID ready. This site earns a referral fee when a sale is completed that way. The cash for cars page puts the two routes side by side.
Service Oklahoma's title transfer list starts with a title you've signed over and had notarized, or Form 718 if your title is electronic, plus a lien release for any loan still on record. Every Elantra on this page is a 2011 or newer model, so the sale also needs an odometer disclosure; when the title has no spot for it, Form 729 is the separate statement. The paperwork guide covers each signature. This site has no connection to Hyundai or to any Hyundai dealer.

Questions about selling a Hyundai Elantra
How can I sell my Hyundai Elantra if the engine is knocking?
You don't have to fix it first. On a 2019 or 2020, run the VIN, because the engine recall may cover it. Then call (539) 271-2021, use the form, or request the partner's offer, and mention the knock right away.
Does the engine recall cover my 2016 or 2017 Elantra?
No. Campaign 21V301 covers only 2019 and 2020 Elantras with the 2.0-liter Nu MPI engine. A knocking 2016 or 2017 is a repair-or-sell call, and the repair or sell page helps you make it.
Can I sell an Elantra with the ABS fire recall still open?
Yes, but tell the buyer, since it shows on a VIN check. The dealer's repair is a new ABS fuse. Until it's done, the notice says to park the car outside and away from buildings.
My 2013 Elantra clicks when I turn the wheel. Will that stop a sale?
No. Steering is the second most reported part on the 2013, and many of those owners describe the same click. No 2013 recall covers it, so a fix is on you. Get a quote, weigh it against an offer for the car as it is, and mention the noise when you ask.
Do I need the title in hand before I call about my Elantra?
No. We look at cars with no title and cars with no keys, though not every one is a car we buy. For a lost Oklahoma title, see lost title; if a lender still holds it, see car with a loan. The partner lists the title among the papers it wants at pickup.
