Short answer

Run the VIN; the 4xe battery recall and several others are free to fix. Electrical faults and peeling screens have no recall, so price them against an as-is offer.

Jeep Grand Cherokee problems: the years owners reported most

NHTSA, the federal safety agency, publishes the complaints owners file for each model year. Each one is an owner's account, not a finding of a defect, and one report can name several parts. These figures are from the 2012 to 2025 files as of September 2026. In most years, the electrical system is the part named most.

  • 2012: 1,642 complaints, 836 of them electrical. Owners report alternators giving out, stalls in traffic and Jeeps that won't restart.
  • 2014: 2,375 complaints, the highest of any year. 483 name the electrical system, 474 the power train and 338 the seats.
  • 2015: 1,359 complaints; 351 name the power train and 314 the seats.
  • 2018: the Uconnect touchscreen is the complaint that repeats most. Owners say it bubbles or delaminates, then ghost-touches, changing the radio or the heat on its own. The same reports show up on the 2020.

On the 2014 and 2015, the seat complaints are nearly all one story: a front head restraint snaps forward with a bang when there has been no crash, sometimes in a parked, empty Jeep. Many power-train reports describe a gear selector pushed to Park that stops in Neutral or Reverse.

Recalls to clear before a buyer runs the VIN

A recall is different: the maker has declared a safety defect and set a dealer repair. Many cover only certain engines or build dates, so your VIN decides which apply.

  • 2012 to 2014: stalls, alternators, brake boosters. 19V813, for 2012 and 2013 models, replaces a fuel pump relay and wiring: "The fuel pump relay inside the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM-7) may fail, causing the vehicle to stall without warning." Other campaigns cover certain alternators on 3.6L and 5.7L engines (14V634, 17V435, 17V741) and water in the brake booster (14V154, 17V572).
  • 2014 and 2015: the gear selector. Under 16V240, the shifter may not warn you when you open the door out of Park; a software update cuts the rollaway risk.
  • 2014 to 2020: the 3.0L EcoDiesel. 20V699 replaces an EGR cooler that can crack and cause an intake fire, 22V406 a high-pressure fuel pump that can starve the engine, and 23V411 adds software against stalling from a failed crankshaft sensor tone wheel.
  • 2018 and 2019: the ABS module. The fault can switch off the ABS and stability control and let the Jeep start and leave Park without the brake pedal. 24V838 replaces 22V426, so a Jeep fixed under the old one needs the new fix too.
  • 2022 and 2023 Grand Cherokee, 2021 to 2023 Grand Cherokee L. Rear coil springs that may detach while driving have been recalled three times: 23V413, 26V051 and now 26V562, filed in September 2026. Its final remedy isn't ready yet. 24V132 replaces upper control arm pinch bolts so the ball joint and knuckle don't separate.
  • 4xe plug-in hybrid. 25V741, for 2022 and later models, covers a high-voltage battery that may catch fire. Until it's done: "Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures and not to charge their vehicles until the remedy is completed." 25V766, on 2023 to 2025 models, covers engine debris that can cause engine failure; its final remedy is still to come.

Under 49 U.S.C. 30120, the maker must remedy a recalled defect without charge. That duty lapses when the first buyer bought the vehicle more than 15 calendar years before the recall notice. The 2012s are near that edge: on one first sold in 2011 or 2012, a recall announced in the next year or two may not be covered. Enter your VIN in NHTSA's recall lookup to see what's open.

When the problem has no recall behind it

Get any open recall done before you list the Jeep; the repair order answers a buyer's first question.

No recall NHTSA lists for the 2018 or 2020 covers the bubbling touchscreen, and none for the 2014 or 2015 covers a head restraint that fires on its own. You pay for those repairs, or you sell with the fault and say so; a buyer is likely to notice both.

Get a written estimate, then compare what the Jeep brings fixed, less the bill, with what it brings as it sits; the repair-or-sell worksheet lays it out. A shifter that won't find Park is covered on bad transmission, and stalling or a failed engine on engine problems. A 12-volt battery that keeps dying, or one warning light, can be a small job; see small problems.

A recall still waiting on its final fix, like 26V562 or 25V766, doesn't block a sale; hand the buyer the campaign number.

Engine, miles, title: what sets a Grand Cherokee's price

No official source prints a price for your Jeep, so we don't guess one. An offer turns on:

  • The engine. The recalls above split by engine (3.6L, 5.7L, 3.0L EcoDiesel, 4xe), so know yours.
  • Mileage. Every Grand Cherokee here is a 2012 or newer, so Oklahoma requires an odometer disclosure when it changes hands. It is usually part of the title's assignment; if not, Form 729 is the separate statement.
  • Recall status. Done, open, or waiting on parts. On a 4xe, an open battery recall means the next owner is told not to charge it yet.
  • The title. A clear Oklahoma title in your name is simplest. A lien, a salvage brand or a missing title narrows who can buy; see title problems and salvage title.
  • Condition. Whether it drives, then the screen, seats, tires and body, including hail damage.

Our offer or the partner's: selling the Jeep in Tulsa

Sell it to us. Call (539) 271-2021 or use the sell-it-to-us form with the year, engine, miles, recall status and where the Jeep is parked. We buy some Grand Cherokees ourselves, anywhere in Tulsa, and pay by check. No title or no keys? We still look, though we can't buy every one, and we'll say so if yours isn't one we buy.

The partner route. If not, our partner Peddle's online offer is free to request, and you can say no. Peddle sets up the pickup and covers its cost, and its page says "Peddle issues payment immediately by check" at pickup. Peddle lists the papers as the title, the registration and a valid driver's license or ID. If you sell through Peddle, it pays this site a referral fee.

The state paperwork doesn't change with the buyer. Service Oklahoma's title transfer list includes a properly assigned, notarized title and a "Lien release for any active liens," so a loan still on the Jeep has to be released before the title can transfer (see car with a loan). The paperwork guide walks through the rest, and cash for cars weighs the two routes. This site has no connection to Jeep, its parent company or any Jeep dealer.

Grand Cherokee selling questions

How can I sell my Jeep Grand Cherokee in Tulsa?

Call (539) 271-2021 or send the details through the form. If it's a Jeep we buy, we make our own offer and pay by check. If it isn't, you can request the partner's free online offer instead, and Peddle handles the pickup. You can also ask for both and compare.

What are the most common Jeep Grand Cherokee problems?

It depends on the year. Across the 2012 to 2025 files, the electrical system draws the most complaints in most years. The 2012 has stalling and alternator reports, the 2014 and 2015 have shifter and head restraint complaints, and the 2018 has the bubbling touchscreen. On a 4xe, the big item is the battery fire recall. Your VIN tells you which recalls apply to yours.

Can I sell my Jeep Grand Cherokee with a delaminating screen?

Yes. It's a condition to disclose, not a reason to wait. No recall covers the screen on the 2018 or 2020, so the repair would come out of your pocket. Get a quote, then set it next to an offer on the Jeep as it is; the repair-or-sell worksheet helps you weigh the two.

Can I sell a Grand Cherokee 4xe with the battery recall still open?

Yes, but tell the buyer, and follow the recall's advice until a dealer does the work: park it outside, away from buildings, and don't charge it. When you call us or fill in the partner's form, mention the open campaign so the offer accounts for it.

My Grand Cherokee won't start and the title is lost. Can I still sell it?

Call us first and say what's missing and what's wrong. We look at Jeeps without titles or keys and ones that don't run, though we can't buy every one. A lost Oklahoma title can be replaced; the lost title page shows how. If we can't buy it, the partner's offer is the other route, and the pickup is arranged for you.

Next step for your Grand Cherokee

Have the VIN, the mileage and the engine size handy, then call the Tulsa line at (539) 271-2021 or fill in the sell-it-to-us form. If it's a Jeep we buy, the offer comes from us and we pay by check. Otherwise we point you to Peddle's online offer, which costs nothing to ask for and commits you to nothing.
