Short answer
If yours is a 2022 to 2024, check the VIN for the engine recalls before anything else. Hesitation from a stop has no recall, so weigh that repair against an as-is offer.

Toyota Tundra problems: the model years that stand out
NHTSA, the federal vehicle safety agency, publishes the complaints owners send it, by model year and by part. The counts below are from its 2012 to 2025 Tundra files, as of late September 2026. Each complaint is one owner's report, not a finding that the truck is defective, and one report can name several parts.
- 2012 and 2013: The 2012 file holds 155 complaints, 57 of them naming the engine; the 2013 file holds 85. Most of the 2012 engine reports trace back to the secondary air injection system: a check engine light and, on some trucks, a sudden drop into limp mode at highway speed.
- 2016 to 2018: Service brakes top the 2016 file, on 34 of 119 complaints, and most of those are about the built-in trailer brake controller cutting out, sometimes mid-tow. The same fault runs through the 2017 and 2018 reports. Many 2016 and 2017 lighting complaints say the headlights go dark when the turn signal is on.
- 2018 and 2019: The fuel system ties for first in the 2019 file, on 15 of 72 complaints. On both years, most of those describe a fuel pump that quit and stalled the truck. Two recalls below cover the pump.
- 2022 to 2025: The count jumps: 430 complaints for 2022, 407 for 2023, 339 for 2024 and 133 so far for 2025, hybrids included. The engine leads each year (164, 163, 148 and 45), with the power train next. Two symptoms repeat: an engine that loses power or shuts off on the road, in some reports seizing, and a delay when you press the gas pulling away from a stop or a rolling stop. A 2025 owner put it this way: "Truck won't go when throttle is pressed for a couple seconds cold or hot."

Recalls to clear, starting with the engine
Recalls go by VIN, so two Tundras from the same year can have different lists.
The engine, 2022 to 2024. Campaign 24V381 covers certain 2022 and 2023 Tundras with the V35A engine: "Debris from the manufacturing process may contaminate the engine and cause the main bearings to fail, which can result in an engine stall and loss of drive power." The dealer replaces the engine at no charge. Campaign 25V767 widened it to 2022 to 2024 trucks: the dealer checks the number 1 main bearing with software and drive data, and replaces the engine if necessary. Its owner letters went out August 28, 2026. A third, 26V320, extends both to more 2024 trucks, but its final remedy isn't ready: owners got interim letters, and more will follow once it is. None of the three appears on NHTSA's 2022 to 2024 Tundra Hybrid lists.
Others to check:
- 2022 to 2024 (24V125): transmission software; the truck may move in neutral with the brakes off. Hybrids included.
- 2022 and 2023 (23V566): a plastic fuel tube can chafe against the brake lines and leak, a fire risk.
- 2022 (22V445): rear axle flange nuts can loosen until a shaft separates from the axle housing.
- 2018 to 2020 (20V012, 20V682): the low-pressure fuel pump in the tank may fail and stall the engine.
- 2018 to 2021 (21V688): the headlight circuits can overheat an electrical connector.
- 2012 to 2021 (21V920): a faulty power steering gear can leak oil and lose its assist suddenly.
Enter your VIN in NHTSA's recall search. Federal law makes the maker remedy a recalled defect without charge, but not for a vehicle "bought by the first purchaser more than 15 calendar years" before the recall notice. For the model years on this page, every campaign above was announced inside that limit.

Fix it or sell it: the faults no recall covers
Anything a campaign covers comes first. On a 2022 to 2024 truck, the engine work costs you nothing, and the dealer's repair order answers a buyer's first question. If the repair isn't available yet, as on some 2024 trucks, you can still sell; give the buyer the campaign number. Some 2023 owners told NHTSA the part for the recall repair wasn't available yet.
No 2022 to 2025 campaign in NHTSA's lists describes the delay from a stop, so any repair is yours to arrange. If the truck is still under warranty, report it to a dealer and keep the paperwork. Otherwise, get a written diagnosis first; the transmission guide covers what to tell a buyer.
The costly case is an engine that fails outside a recall, on a hybrid, an older Tundra or a truck the campaigns leave out. Get a shop's written quote and an offer on the truck as it sits, then compare. The repair-or-sell worksheet does the math, and engine problems covers the warning signs. On a 2012 or 2013 with the check engine light on, have the code read first; small problems starts there.

Five things a buyer checks on a Tundra
This page gives no dollar figure; yours comes from an offer on the truck itself. These shape it:
- The engine campaigns. On a 2022 to 2024: inspected, engine replaced, or still waiting on a remedy. Keep the dealer's paperwork.
- Exact mileage. Several NHTSA complaints on 2014, 2016 and 2017 Tundras come from buyers who learned after a private sale that the mileage didn't match the truck's records. Expect a careful buyer to check yours.
- Towing gear. If it has a hitch, make sure the trailer brake controller works.
- Title status. Clean, salvage or rebuilt, or a loan still on record: see salvage title and car with a loan.
- Condition. Whether it starts and drives, then frame and bed rust, hail dents, glass and tires.

Selling a Tundra in Tulsa: our offer or the partner's
Sell it to us. Call (539) 271-2021 or use the form with the year, gas or hybrid, the miles and your recall results. We buy some Tundras ourselves, from anywhere in Tulsa, and pay by check. No title or no keys? Call anyway: we look at those trucks, though we don't buy every one, and we'll tell you if yours isn't a fit.
The partner's offer. When it isn't a truck we buy, our partner Peddle makes a free online offer you don't have to take. Peddle arranges and pays for the pickup, and at that pickup, "Peddle issues payment immediately by check." Its page lists the papers to gather: title, registration, and a valid driver's license or ID. If your truck sells through Peddle, this site is paid a referral fee.
For the transfer, Service Oklahoma wants the title properly assigned and notarized, plus a lien release if a lender still holds a lien. The paperwork guide goes step by step, and cash for cars puts the two routes side by side. Toyota doesn't own, run or endorse this site, and neither does any Toyota dealer.

Questions Tulsa Tundra owners ask
Is my truck in the Toyota Tundra engine recall?
It may be if it's a 2022, 2023 or 2024 Tundra with the V35A engine. Campaigns 24V381, 25V767 and 26V320 cover certain trucks from those years, not all of them, and NHTSA's Tundra Hybrid lists don't include them. Your VIN in NHTSA's recall search gives the answer.
Can I sell my truck in Tulsa with a recall still open?
Yes. An open recall doesn't block a sale. If the repair is available, getting it done first spares you the question later. If it isn't available yet, tell the buyer the campaign number so they can look it up. Either way, ask us about the truck or request the partner's offer.
How do I sell my Toyota Tundra if the engine has failed?
Run the VIN first, since a 2022 to 2024 truck may get its engine replaced under a campaign. If nothing covers it, sell it as it sits; a truck that doesn't run gets hauled, not driven. Call us with what happened. We look at trucks like that, and when yours isn't one we buy, the partner's offer is the other route.
Should I fix the hesitation from a stop before selling?
Only if the fix is covered or cheap. No recall in NHTSA's 2022 to 2025 lists addresses it. Describe what the truck does, hand over any dealer visit records, and compare a repair quote with an offer on the truck as it is.
Can I sell a Tundra that still has a loan on it?
Yes, but the title can't change hands cleanly until the lien is released. Ask your lender for the payoff amount, and read car with a loan for the order of steps in Oklahoma.
Your next step with the Tundra
Before you call, pull up the VIN, the odometer reading and your recall results. Then ring (539) 271-2021 or send the form. If we buy your Tundra, you're paid by check. If we don't, request Peddle's free online offer; you can still say no.
